Comments:

What a blast! MIT Radio Society's Andy, K2TJ and Harvard Wireless Club's
Clayton, NF1R operated from the awesome multi-multi station of Dave, K1TTT.
Our goal for this contest was to make 1,200 QSOs and have an outside shot of
a
top 3 position. We did not reach our QSO total goal, but we're very happy
with
the score.

Observations:
-We wish more single ops had called out on 10 meters more frequently. The
band
was open, especially around 2200-2400.
-15 meters sounded like it might have some life early on in the contest, but
never opened in a great way. After around 2 hours, we moved from the band,
and
the 10-minute rule discouraged a return for the rest of the contest.
-Some signals were very loud on 160, but so were the static crashes. The
conditions seemed to get worse there near the end of the contest.
-Our rate dropped somewhat during the dinner hours with few takers for CQs,
but
picked up substantially around 0200Z.

Thanks to the stations we worked on 5 bands, and to K9OM whom we worked on
six.
Also, thanks to Dave for making his station available for the contest.

73,
Clayton NF1R

Not bad on Saturday, but Saturday night and Sunday were a
real bummer with the coronal hole knocking down the bands.
It was even worse Sunday night... just after pizza time
the power went out. After a short break to see if it would
come right back I fired up the generator and we finished as
m/2 low power with no cluster because the phone went dead
also. KM1P learned how to operate rtty during the blackout
when he stopped by after visiting the Big-E Sunday. A few
quick lessons and he was running 2 vfo's, running and s&ping
(at the same time) on 40m for the last 40 minutes or so.
Its neat running 2 decoders with the ft-1000mp, you can
really make good use of that second vfo to tune around
between cq's.

Comments:

First off I would like to thank Dave K1TTT for allowing me to again operate this contest from his super station.  While my time was limited (6 hours) I knew that I was going to get a sweep when my second QSO was VY1MB, found him CQing while searching for a clear frequency on 20 meters.  My last section for a sweep was NLI!  My biggest regret was not being able to really give Dave's 40 meter stack a good workout! When I QSYed to 40 meters it sounded like 20 meters as it had already gone long. So seeing as I needed all the New England sections for a sweep off to 75 meters. I did use the second radio to find several mults, but for the most part had to really work to keep a run going on the main radio. Hopefully next year I will be able to give it a full 24 hours. This was not in the cards this year because of business travel, family commitments, and selling a house.
